Celebrating its 100th Anniversary, The New Yorker, launched its "Onward and Upwards with the Arts" series of features. They just published an incredible feature on the history and value of marching band. The piece talks about the origins of Marching Band beginning with the Ottoman Empire, and tracks its evolution to competitive marching band. The piece also features the 2024 season of three incredible band programs, Carmel (Indiana), Avon (Indiana), and Bourbon County (Kentucky) It is well worth the read, and marching bands across the country should be thrilled that The New Yorker gave competitive marching band a huge national shout out!
