BEECHWOOD BANDS Fort Mitchell, Kentucky
Mr. Owens, Director of Bands David D. Owens joined the Beechwood Music Faculty in the fall of 2003. Mr. Owens hails from Corbin, Kentucky, and was a 1997 graduate of South Laurel High School in London, Kentucky. Mr. Owens earned his Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. In 2001 he was a member of the Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps from Lexington, Kentucky. In the fall of 2002, Mr. Owens student taught at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, under the tutelage of Mr. Jeff Hood, former Director of Bands at Beechwood High School. Since being at Beechwood, the band has received numerous awards. They have consistently rated “Distinguished” in the KMEA Concert Festivals, as well as the marching band placing second in the state in Class A in 2005 and most recently in 2007. In 2006, the marching band was named the KMEA Class A State Champion and the BOA Class A National Champion. Mr. Owens was named “District 6 High School Teacher of the Year” for the 2005-2006 school year and again received the award recently for the 2007-2008 school year. In 2006, he was awarded the University of Kentucky’s College of Education “A Teacher Who Made a Difference” award. Recently, Mr. Owens was awarded the “Certificate of Merit for Marching Excellence” by the National Band Association.
In 2007, Mr. Owens received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Xavier University, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Craig, Associate Director of Bands Joe Craig joined the Beechwood Music Faculty in the fall of 2006. Mr. Craig received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Northern Kentucky University and his Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Joe has performed with the Kentucky Symphony, the CCM Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble, the Kentucky Intercollegiate Concert and Jazz Ensembles, the NKU Symphonic Winds and Jazz Band, and is currently a member of Proteus, the CCM faculty saxophone quartet. At NKU, Joe was a winner of the NKU concerto competition, a Corbett Scholar, and the Department of Music’s Outstanding Senior his graduating year. Joe also competed in the 2002 North American Saxophone Alliance competition at the University of North Texas. At CCM, Joe was principal in both the Wind Symphony and the Jazz Ensemble, and performed as a soloist with the Wind Symphony and the CCM Chamber Players. Joe also recently performed as a guest artist at the 2006 North American Saxophone Alliance conference at the University of Iowa, with the Proteus quartet. Joe is in his first year of teaching at Beechwood, having worked with several local bands prior to Beechwood. Joe also is an active private lesson teacher, having taught at several schools in the Greater Cincinnati area, including the last 3 years at Beechwood. Joe is a Northern Kentucky native, and a graduate of Scott High School in Taylor Mill.
Rob Arnold, Guard Design/Instructor Rob is an active colorguard instructor and designer throughout the state of Kentucky. He has worked with many schools, including George Rogers Clark HS, Dunbar HS, Lafayette HS, Adair Co. HS, and Beechwood HS. He was a member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and the WGI World Champion "Pride of Cincinnati."
Rob has been on staff at Beechwood since the fall of 2005.
Cindy Brown, Guard Instructor Cindy is the Guard Instructor and Coordinator for the Beechwood Bands program, which includes instructing and organizing the Fall Colorguard and the Winterguard. A member of the famed Drum Corps "Star of Indiana" in the 1980's, Cindy has worked with numerous colorguards throughout the Tri-State area.
Cindy has been on staff at Beechwood since the fall of 2005.
Adam Proctor, Percussion Coordinator/Instructor Adam is an active private lesson teacher and ensemble director in the Tri-State area. He received his bachelor degree in music education from Northern Kentucky University in December of 2006. While at NKU he participated in numerous performances with the NKU Symphonic Winds as principal percussionist, as well as performances with the NKU Steel Band and Percussion Ensembles. Adam is very active in education. He has been teaching privately in the area since 2000 and has acted as percussion director of several local high schools including Scott High School, Northwest High School, Highlands High School and Beechwood High School. Currently, Adam has is working as percussion director at Beechwood High School and Scott High School.
